"When I pray, coincidences happen, and when I don't pray, they don't" ~ William Temple
I read this quote earlier today and it got me to thinking how true this is for me. In times when my relationship with God isn't as good as it could be (let's be honest- this happens more frequently that I would like), I don't get that weird 'what a coincidence' feeling.
I don't know if this happens to others, but when I am regularly reading my bible and other articles and praying with God, I'll often read something that a couple of days later someone will ask me something about. This happens quite often with my children's ministry. I will be reading something, then later that week a kid will ask me a question about it and I think 'great, I just read about this, and I know exactly how to answer that question'.
Just this Sunday an instance like this happened. We were in the middle of worship in church singing This I Believe (the Creed) by Hillsong and we sing the lyric 'I believe in God our Father, I believe in Christ the Son, I believe in the Holy Spirit, our God is three in one' - and a 7 year old turns to me and asks me 'I don't get that, how can God be three different parts and the same thing?' Fortunately for me, I had just read about earlier that week how to talk to children about the trinity (entitled 'Explaining the Trinity to a Seven Year Old'- which happened to be the age of the child who asked me the question.)
God is so good, that when we have a great relationship with him, he helps us in ways we don't even ask. I love our God.
